If you’re looking for an unlimited mobile broadband connection to get online at home full-time, Tre is the best choice, for a few different reasons.
The best thing about Tre is they include a really good Zyxel NR5103E router for free, when you sign up for their 5G mobile broadband. Plus, they also have the option of getting a Zyxel NR7103 router instead.
With this second router option, you can get an external router installed on your house, if needed, to give you better 5G signal. No matter where you live, you can ensure you get good wireless broadband connectivity with Tre.
Despite the fact that they always include unlimited surfing, Tre’s mobile broadband deals are very reasonably priced. You can even test out your new connection for 14 days with no obligation, allowing you to see exactly what speeds you’ll get before committing to the full contract length.
Overall, if you want an unlimited mobile broadband tariff that comes with a router, it’s hard to go past Tre. The only downside to them is you have to commit for 24 months – you can’t buy their service on a month-to-month basis.

2. Telenor Unlimited Mobile Broadband
Telenor’s mobile broadband offer is quite similar to Tre’s.
It comes with unlimited data, and a Wi-Fi router is included for free, if you commit to a 24 month contract. There is also the option of getting an external antenna installed by Telenor, for customers in remote locations that need a signal boost (like at the summer house).
The difference is, Telenor is a bit more expensive than Tre. Although they offer a cheap price for the first 12 months, after this promotion has expired, the monthly cost goes up significantly.
On the plus side though, there are no setup fees, and you get a 14 day return policy, just like with Tre.
Ultimately, we would recommend Tre over Telenor most of the time, because they’re cheaper. However, Telenor might be a better choice if you know that their 5G network offers faster speeds at your address.

3. Chili Unlimited Mobile Broadband
If you want unlimited mobile broadband but don’t need a router included, Chili is worth checking out.
With this provider, if you buy an unlimited surfing internet plan, you’ll just receive a SIM card from them. There is no router bundled with the plan, like there is with Tre or Telenor.
Chili currently has three data plans to choose from, and each comes with unlimited surfing. You just have to choose what download speed you want.
This choice of download speed is quite good to have – you can save some money if you only need download speeds of up to 100 Mbit/s, for example. However unrestricted 5G speeds are also available for a higher price.
The best thing about Chili though is there is no minimum commitment – you can cancel your surfing SIM at any time, with one month’s notice.
The monthly costs of these mobile broadband packages are quite reasonable, because they’re very basic. However, you might find that committing to a 24 month contract with Tre or Telenor will offer a cheaper price, especially if you want 5G speeds, simply because you’re entering into a long-term agreement.

4. Telia Unlimited Mobile Broadband
Telia’s unlimited mobile broadband tariff is quite similar to Telenor’s, but it isn’t quite as good value for money.
While the monthly price is quite low for the first 12 months, it becomes much more expensive for the rest of the 24 month contract.
And while there is no upfront fee most of the time, it depends on the promotion currently running. Often, there is a decent connection charge you have to pay.
On the plus side though, you can get a discount on Telia mobile broadband if you’re already a fixed broadband customer with them. This isn’t extremely useful though, because it’s rare to have a fibre and mobile broadband connection up and running in the same location simultaneously.
Telia does give you the option of saving money by buying a plan with less data, which is nice to have. However, they don’t include a router by default, which is a bit of a shame given their monthly costs aren’t the cheapest.

5. Comviq Unlimited Mobile Broadband
Comviq is a good choice if you want mobile broadband with unlimited surfing for a cheap price, and don’t need fast download speeds.
Rather than offering 5G mobile broadband, you’ll only get 4G with Comviq. Although this means you’ll only get download speeds of about 50 Mbit/s on average, the upside to this is their monthly costs are some of the lowest on the market.
Despite being cheap, you still get a 4G router included for free from Comviq. There is no connection cost on this tariff.
You do have to commit for 24 months, and there is no return period, like there is with Tre or Telenor. Also, the price does increase a bit at the end of the binding period.
For small households of 1-2 people, or for those who don’t get online very much, Comviq unlimited mobile broadband is worth checking out, especially if you’re looking to save as much money as possible.
However, most of the time, it’s worth paying a bit more for 5G speeds, with a provider like Tre.

How much does unlimited mobile broadband cost?
Depending on the provider you choose, and whether a router is included, you can expect to pay about 400-500 SEK per month for an unlimited surfing mobile broadband tariff in Sweden.
Sometimes, if the tariff only comes with 4G connectivity, instead of 5G, you can expect to pay a bit less. However, the difference in price between 4G and 5G mobile broadband tariffs is not massive most of the time.
4G vs 5G mobile broadband
In Sweden, we are fortunate to have very good 5G signal in most populated areas of the country, including in the countryside.
Most of the time, you will be able to get 5G mobile broadband, which will give you download speeds of 300-600 Mbit/s on average, and potentially a bit higher if you have very good signal.
On the other hand, if you can only get 4G, or if you want to use 4G in order to save as much money as possible, you can expect to get a download speed of about 50 Mbit/s most of the time.
With 5G, you might get a slightly faster upload speed than with 4G, but the difference is not that significant – normally about 12 Mbit/s instead of 8 or so Mbit/s. Also, your latency will normally be quite similar with both technologies – about 30-40ms most of the time.
Do I really need unlimited surfing?
If you will be using mobile broadband as your main way of getting online at home, it’s best to have unlimited surfing.
These days, the average household uses large amounts of data when surfing the web. Watching videos, downloading files, browsing social media, and even Zoom calls use a lot of data.
You will only be able to get away with a 200GB or so data limit if only one or two people live at home full time, and you don’t use the internet much. Meaning, you don’t work or study from home, and you only watch the occasional video in the evenings, with the rest of your internet usage being restricted to web browsing, emails, and other less data-intensive activities.
If you won’t be using mobile broadband as your main way of getting online, a 50GB or so data limit might be enough. It depends on how often you get online, and what you use the internet for.
What speeds will I get with mobile broadband at my address?
Previously, we discussed some rough ranges of what download speeds you can expect when using mobile broadband. But exactly what speeds will you get at home?
There are a few ways you can find out what download speeds you’ll get at home using mobile broadband.
- Do a speed test on your phone, using the same mobile network, and the same connectivity (4G or 5G). If your mobile phone contract is on a different network, consider borrowing a friend’s phone. This should give you a very accurate idea of the speeds you can expect to receive.
- Buy a mobile broadband plan with a return policy. Many mobile broadband providers, like Tre, give you the ability to return the router within 14 days, allowing you to see what speeds you’ll receive before committing to a 12 or 24 month contract.
- Ask your neighbours what speeds they’re getting, if they also use mobile broadband.
Should I buy a SIM-only plan or a tariff with a router?
Most mobile broadband tariffs in Sweden are sold by the major mobile networks (such as Tre, Telia, and Telenor), and come with a SIM card and a Wi-Fi router.
However, sometimes you can also choose to avoid the router, and just get an unlimited surfing SIM card instead. You’ll then need to find a mobile broadband router or a mobile hotspot device to use it with.
Most of the time, if you’ll be using mobile broadband to get online at home with multiple devices, it’s best to get a proper 4G or 5G router, and in this case, buying from the provider often makes sense. This is because there is often no initial cost for the router – it is included as a bonus when you enter into a long-term commitment.
In saying this, it’s worth checking that you’re getting good value, especially if you do have to pay for the router upfront from the provider. Look at prices for the same router from other retailers, to see if it would make more sense to just get the SIM card and buy the router separately.

If you’re looking to save money on mobile broadband, but you still need unlimited surfing, here are some ways you can do this.
- Enter into a 24 month contract, if you can. This will normally allow you to avoid paying an upfront fee, and can also help to reduce your monthly cost.
- Always make sure to shop around for the cheapest prices. Put your postcode into all of the major provider’s websites, to see which offers the best deals at any given moment.
- See if you can save money by buying the router separately, rather than paying a router rental fee, as we just discussed.
- Consider buying a 4G mobile broadband tariff, instead of 5G, from a provider like Comviq. Just remember that the download speeds offered by 4G (about 50 Mbit/s) aren’t the best for households with more than three people regularly online.
How to set up a new mobile broadband tariff
Once you buy a mobile broadband package, here’s what happens, and how to get set up.
- You’ll receive your SIM card (and router, if included) in the mail, normally within 1-2 business days.
- Insert the SIM into the router, or the hotspot device you’re using.
- Plug in and power on the router, and wait for it to connect to the mobile network. This might take a few minutes. Try to position the router on an upstairs windowsill, if possible.
- Connect to Wi-Fi, and perform some speed tests to ensure you’re getting the download and upload speeds you’re paying for. If your speeds aren’t quite as good as you expect, try moving the router to a windowsill on the other side of the house, which might give you better reception with the nearest 5G mast.
Mobile broadband is very simple to set up, especially when compared to fibre. You don’t have to have an engineer come and visit, unless you decide to get an external antenna installed for better signal.
