Vodafone internet tariffs without a landline
Below, we’ve looked at which Vodafone internet offers come without a home phone connection, and explained whether each of these plans is any good.
1. Vodafone DSL without a landline
Vodafone is one of the only internet providers in Germany at the moment to offer DSL tariffs without a landline service.
You can get a download speed of 100 or 250 Mbit/s – Vodafone’s 500 and 1000 Mbit/s tariffs aren’t available without a landline, unfortunately. However, 250 Mbit/s is plenty for most small to medium-sized households.
There are no connection costs, which is great, and Vodafone’s monthly costs are also reasonable. However, you do miss out on their introductory discounts when you choose a package with no home phone.
On the plus side though, you get a Wi-Fi router included free of charge, meaning you don’t have to pay a router rental fee for the entire 24 month contract, like you do with most other broadband providers.
Overall, Vodafone’s DSL tariffs with no landline are worth looking at if you don’t use your home phone. However, it’s always important to compare their prices to those of other providers that do offer a landline, even if you’ll never use it.
2. Vodafone GigaCube
The other Vodafone internet tariff with no landline is their GigaCube package.
Using the Vodafone GigaCube, you’ll connect to the internet using the mobile network, just like on your mobile phone. Meaning, there is no fixed cable connection – all you need to do is insert the provided SIM card into the router, plug it in, turn it on, and connect to Wi-Fi.
The big benefit of using wireless internet is it’s very easy to set up. And you can still get download speeds of up to 500 Mbit/s, with the 5G GigaCube plan.
However, not all Vodafone GigaCube plans come with unlimited data. You need to pay more for it. And as a family, having a 100-200 GB monthly data limit probably won’t be enough for your needs.
Also, when using LTE or 5G to get online, your latency will be higher compared to if you were using a fixed internet connection.
This is important to remember if you often play online games – with increased latency, you will lag more. But for most use cases, having a slightly higher latency won’t affect your web browsing experience too much.
Which Vodafone internet tariff should I buy?
In most cases, we would recommend checking out Vodafone’s DSL tariffs if you’re looking for internet without a landline phone.
Compared to their wireless internet deals, Vodafone DSL is often a bit cheaper, and it always comes with unlimited data.
Although setting up Vodafone DSL may be a bit trickier (you might need an engineer to come and visit) your connection will be more consistent – especially your latency.
However, there are some situations in which it might make sense to consider choosing the Vodafone GigaCube instead.
Using Vodafone mobile internet might be worth it if:
- You need a download speed of more than 250 Mbit/s, and can get Vodafone 5G signal at your address. In this case, the GigaCube can offer download speeds of up to 500 Mbit/s.
- You can’t get Vodafone DSL where you live, but you can get a Vodafone LTE or 5G signal.
- You want a more flexible, more portable internet solution. You can theoretically take the GigaCube with you on holiday anywhere inside of Germany, rather than just being limited to getting online at home.
Other internet tariffs with no landline connection
If you’re not sure about Vodafone, here are some other internet providers that offer tariffs with no landline connection.
1. O2 Homespot
The O2 Homespot is very similar to the Vodafone GigaCube, but overcomes many of its downsides.
The big advantage of O2 LTE internet is it includes unlimited data – you don’t need to pay more for unlimited usage. This makes it a much better choice if you’re looking for a way to get online at home full-time.
And because you don’t need to pay more for unlimited usage, the O2 Homespot has much lower monthly costs. Plus, there is no connection fee on the default 24 month contract.
The downside to the O2 Homespot is you can only get download speeds of up to 100 Mbit/s, rather than 500 Mbit/s.
However, O2 offers you the flexibility to avoid locking into a long-term contract, which is a nice bonus. You can choose to buy the Homespot on a month-to-month basis, if you’d prefer, which most other internet providers don’t allow you to do.
2. 1&1 DSL
1&1 DSL plans come with a landline service. However, despite this, their monthly costs are nearly always extremely competitive – often much cheaper than DSL tariffs with no landline.
You can get a download speed of up to 1000 Mbit/s, and 1&1 offers low prices, especially during the introductory period for new customers.
The downside is 1&1’s prices do increase significantly after the initial discount period. This means that it might be worth switching to another provider when your 24 month contract is up, or at least checking to see if you can recommit to a new contract and get a lower monthly cost once again.
Also, there is an upfront fee on 1&1’s broadband tariffs, but unlike with most other internet providers, once up and running, you have the ability to test your connection for 30 days. If the speeds or connection consistency aren’t as good as you expected, you can leave the contract.
Overall, even though 1&1 does supply a landline service, it’s often worth checking their prices against competitors like Vodafone, to see if they are any cheaper.
3. PŸUR internet without a landline
If you live somewhere that PŸUR internet is available, such as many areas of Berlin, it’s worth checking to see if you can get one of their internet-only deals.
PŸUR offer fast download speeds (up to 1000 Mbit/s) with very reasonable monthly costs. They don’t normally offer huge discounts in the first six or 12 months like 1&1 do – instead they offer lower prices throughout the contract.
There are no upfront fees, and also PŸUR offers you the ability to rent a FRITZ!Box 6660 router, which offers excellent Wi-Fi signal, for a low monthly cost.
The main downside to PŸUR is they’re not available everywhere in Germany. However, this provider is definitely looking at if you live in one of their service areas.
