European telecoms industry will grow again

The European telecoms industry will return to growth in 2016 after six years of declining revenues as investments in fibre broadband and 4G mobile begin to pay off for larger groups in the sector, according to new research from Etno, the group that represents Europe’s larger telecoms companies.

Revenues among the industry’s largest groups will fall by 2.7 per cent this year to about €248bn, after falling 4 per cent in 2013 and Etno, which represents companies such as Deutsche TelekomOrangeTelecom Italia and Telefónica, estimates that the sector will slowly be growing again within 18 months.
