Benefits and problems caused by online platforms in UK agenda

The EU committee in the British House of Lords has launched an inquiry into the power of online platforms, to feed into the European Commission’s wider probe.

The inquiry is being run by the Lords’ EU internal market sub-committee, and it is looking for evidence about the benefits and problems caused by online platforms.

It will cover effects on consumers and businesses, and focus on issues such as transparency and social effects. The probe will also examine the viability of current competition and data protection laws, and ask whether issues raised by platforms are “best dealt with at EU or member state level.”
