Facebook launches new photo-matching tool to fight against revenge porn

Facebook will use photo-matching technology to fight against revenge porn.

The social media giant will attempt to stop the spread of the graphic images by identifying them with the tool and then removing the content from its sites.

‘We then use photo-matching technologies to help thwart further attempts to share the image on Facebook, Messenger and Instagram,’ said Antigone Davis, the tech giant’s head of global safety.
‘If someone tries to share the image after it’s been reported and removed, we will alert them that it violates our policies and that we have stopped their attempt to share it.’

Specially trained members of the social network’s Community Operations team will be in charge of reviewing images and suspending accounts. Users will be able to notify them if they suspect a graphic image was shared without permission by clicking on the ‘report’ button on the post.

In April 2015 it was made an offence in England and Wales to share private sexual images or video without the subject’s consent.
